Wim van der Heijden - Sax
I didn't start making music until I was older, at 32 years of age. Then, I finally bought a saxophone and started taking lessons. The love for the sax, however, was nothing new. My Dad gave me a portable cassette recorder, with a tape in it, when I was 10. That tape contained only sax music. I wore out that tape completely.
After I started playing the saxophone, I always regretted not having started sooner, because some things are hard or even impossible to learn when you're older. I started fanatically and played in as many bands as possible to expedite learning how to play the sax.
At the moment I play baritone sax with Udens Big Band, tenor and alt sax with the Landerdband and tenor sax with the Mars band in Veghel.
Around Carnival every year, the Auwzum Wan'klank gets resurrected where Pim, Arnold and John join in as the permanent basis.
My musical preference, besides big band and jazz, most certainly is also blues. It is wonderful to play this music with as much feeling and emotion as possible. When a solo turns out perfectly and adds to the joy; that is fantastic.
From its inception I have played with Down & Dirty, together with Pim, Arnold and John.
